Yumetrics or Scimetrics

I would like to see a researcher be presented with his/her own hit/citation data, updated dynamically in the online continuum from pre- to post-pub, whenever they are logged into the website, which may mean being able easily/instantly to call it up through an app. Not only is the information of professional interest to the user, there is also a semi-tangible bit of stroking that is simply pleasing, thus giving the user a pleasant experience. The value of that cannot be overestimated.

Value for Users

Viewing the data normally requires use of a separate citation tool, and more time.

Application Users

Every individual who has published scholarly material and/or who is on a tenure clock.

I see some technical difficulties with this. There are many researchers with the same name and initials, even in the same field of research. To be presented with a list of supposedly your own publications that’s inaccurate is most definitely not a pleasant experience. If there could be a way around this, it’s an intriguing app.

It could easily be done by assigning a *permanent* unique code (some cryptic of the author’s name, name + birth year, etc.) or a computer-generated number (in the same way e-mail ID’s are assigned where one’s choice is rejected if a duplicate). It is important that it be quick and easy. I think the concept has a lot of potential.

I think this could be an application grateful to many authors to be reviewing this work apart to search for that information which is not only important for them, but can help in some kind of report to their superiors or the institution that is not always have on hand at any given time
